Good morning and welcome back to Heaver News! I hope you are all keeping well.
There was a big response to my latest article on the new polling showing more Brits favour exiting ECHR than remaining.
The idea that a European Court can intervene in British policy is barmy and the People Polling survey found just 8% of Tory voters are now opposed to leaving ECHR.
As ever I enjoyed reading the feedback from paid supporters to the article. Mike in particular was scathing of the Conservative Government’s performance:
“Anything the Tories say are just lies.
“The UK voted to leave the EU. The Tories have been dragging their feet and have done next to nothing to to achieve this properly.
“Sunak has not stopped the migrant boats, not even tried to push them back. Sunak just provides a taxi service for migrants. Sunak has made no attempt to come out of the ECHR. Anybody who votes Tory, must be suffering Dementia.”
Another paid supporter, Charles, isn’t exactly thrilled either:
“Not leaving the ECHR and not ditching the awful NI Protocol has been an utter betrayal.
“The Tory Party is in danger of a well deserved shellacking in the next election, but I am not looking forward to another period of Labour getting into power.”
Meanwhile Patrick’s view of the current Conservative Party is that:
“Only a third of Tory MPs are conservative, and Brexit for them was just a way to cling on to power when things looked tricky. They had no intention of implementing it.”
This lack of faith from Leavers in the Tory Government at the moment is why Sunak’s Conservatives are trailing Labour by such a margin and why Reform UK’s support is rising.
By the way, I’m interested to know from readers of Heaver News overall if you have faith in the Tories to stop the illegal migrant boats. Please let me know in the poll below and I’ll report back on the results in the next newsletter.
But could Rishi Sunak and the Government finally get a grip? Finally listen to the public, their own voters and their own Home Secretary and Leave ECHR? Will Sunak as Prime Minister pull the UK out of ECHR?
There were some pretty interesting reports over the weekend - and comments from MPs - that have rocketed this subject up the agenda.
