We have just witnessed seismic political change. And that’s before the UK General Election.
Voters right across Europe have just confirmed what was long suspected: that the EU Elections would see record gains for Eurosceptic, nationalist parties.
In Germany, the Conservatives and anti-EU AFD came first and second, ahead of the governing Social Democrats and Greens.
Italians backed Giorgia Meloni’s party into first place, boosting the authority of Italy’s PM.
Whilst the electoral beating the French gave to President Macron’s party has been so severe that Macron has subsequently called a snap election. A huge gamble.
Indeed it appears Marine Le Pen’s party not only won in France, but received more than double the level of support compared to Macron’s trailing alliance.
So are we about to see a similar voter shockwave delivered in this country? Well, Nigel Farage’s entry into the General Election has certainly shaken things up.
In my previous article I noted that Reform UK’s record-high poll ratings - up to 17% nationally - appeared to be denting support not just for the Tories but Labour as well.
Thanks to paid subscribers of Heaver News for your comments in response to that post. Sue said that she is:
“Feeling some optimism for the future of our politics. Pity the MSM aren't seeing it.”
Whilst Elizabeth gave a very interesting insight on Reform’s prospects:
“It's an exciting time to be alive.
“The political landscape is fragmenting and moving in a way I've never witnessed before.
“All my Gen Z's are going Reform as they are willing to now register to vote in the hope this new party is more willing to look at young problems.
“I just hope they deliver for them after decades of neglecting them.”
What we do know is that this campaign so far has seen Reform pick up big momentum, with pollsters conceding for the first time that there could well be Reform MPs elected.
That is a huge contrast to Rishi Sunak’s campaign - with strong rumours that the PM could even quit before polling day.
