We Need Reform To Rescue Britain
'Without such a concerted effort against the ConSocialist mess our two-party system has baked into our politics, the outlook is bleak.'
It was exactly ten years ago I first moved to London to take on the role of Head of Media for UKIP. At that point the party was polling in single figures but there was a real sense of appetite for an insurgent to break through.
Discontent with establishment politics was palpable. Yet the tonic we so passionately fought for in becoming a self-governing, fully sovereign and self-assured nation demanded by the public through their vote to Leave the European Union has not been seized upon at all.
A decade later, and despite having had a Tory-led Government the entire time, having somehow managed to realise the dream of leaving the EU, the sense of slippage from national self-confidence and assertiveness, from building upon the tenets of capitalism with a conscience and the sheer speed of dangerously absurd social change is acute.
You would think we have had a radical socialist government the entire time. Taxes have never been so high while public services have never been so poor. Radical neoliberal chaos is drowning out the mass voice of common sense and tearing apart our very social fabric.
The constant attitude of appeasement by the British Government where it feels as though the priority is everyone else’s country rather than our own is not just frustrating but existentially perilous. The discontent that was building with politics a decade ago has exponentially multiplied.
And the disgraceful mockery a party with a once 80-seat majority has made of our nation with parlour games, psychodrama, infighting and instability is unforgivable.
So we stand on the precipice of a left-wing Government yet again, who might be making some of the right noises about policy and principle now, but will doubtless usher in an even more potent form of the narrow-minded defeatist and dangerous groupthink that is leading to not just managed self-decline but teetering on self-destruction.
Yet that is the binary choice facing voters. A party proven to be incapable of delivering what we need - or one that doesn’t want to.
And so it is no surprise that Reform UK is almost polling in double digits without even being a household name. It is evident from experience that when another political force emerges that truly champions the things people want to see happen, it is the only way to effect any change whatsoever, and as soon as that electoral threat retreats, so does any resolve to truly service the British people.
In short, the public are crying out for something that they can vote for proudly and enthusiastically. It is utterly vital Reform UK not only positions itself to heavily influence the political narrative, but also garners the electoral support needed to really make that difference.
Because without such a concerted effort against the ConSocialist mess our two-party system has baked into our politics, the outlook is bleak.
So I find myself back in the political fray, driven by a genuine fear that if something isn’t done now, it will soon be too late. Yet I am also emboldened when I realise that there is huge hunger out there for a British Giorgia Meloni to make themselves known.
I ask anybody who shares my pessimism, but also still clings to a sense of optimism that as a country we are good enough, do deserve better and can do more, also realises that it is time for mass reform. And that is the job of Reform UK.
But without the support of others who, like me, still believe Britain can be great, we risk as a collective continuing to sink simply by doing nothing. I’m prepared to fight for our future. I hope you are too.
Reform should be on 20/25% by now but it isn't because Tice thinks only he can 'do it all'. A party that looks like a one man band, not a team, is doomed. There's no Economics Spokesman (or woman), no Immigration Spokesman, no Crime Spokesman, no Health spokesman, no Spokesman or Woman on the daily, leftist attacks on NORMAL families trying to raise kids. No Spokesmen or women FIGHTING FOR A REAL BREXIT, no Spokesmen or women on ANY of the burning issues of the day, just stale old Tice wittering on, tying himself in knots and not even getting to 5% in recent by-elections. It's profoundly depressing how someone in a key position to fight for Britain's survival can be so useless. IF Reform had 7/8/9/10 good spokespeople, it would start to look like a government in waiting. Sure, some would make mistakes and get tripped up, but at least they'd be in the news. If they tripped up badly, the party could drop them, Tice would look strong and the others would understand the seriousness of the job in hand. But Tice is running himself ragged trying to 'do it all' and if he makes a mistake, then Reform is finished. A PARTY NEEDS TO BE A TEAM.
I completely agree but Reform need to start getting their message out more widely. I know many people who are fed up with the status quo but who have never heard of Reform or who think it is Mr Fox’s party. I am trying to enlighten them but without the Party making noises it’s hard going. Reform needs to step up and get much more exposure in the next few months or they will lose the window. If Sunak calls a surprise election they won’t be any where near ready. Agree with Mrs Bucket who says Tice cannot do this alone. We need many more faces and opinions out there not just one.
