So in the end the Conservatives lost well over 1,000 seats in the English local elections. Very ouch!

A dismal 1,000-seat loss was being portrayed as the worst case scenario for the Tories before the elections. The reality was actually even worse.

The party was squeezed hard by a pincer movement in both Remain and Leave areas.

Though Labour did make significant gains, these were shared with the Greens and the Liberal Democrats.

The evidence is that we are still on the trajectory to a Coalition Government after the next election.

We are probably on course for a Labour-led Government propped up by the likes of the Liberal Democrats, Greens and perhaps the SNP.

With that in mind don’t be surprised to see some sort of electoral pact - whether formally or informally - emerge before the next General Election.

This all leads towards changes that include a Westminster attempt to reverse Brexit.
