Truss Wins, Your Verdict & Huge Illegal Migration
Liz Truss has won the Conservative leadership election.
Welcome back my newsletter on what is obviously a big day, as we now know who the next Prime Minister will be.
Before I bring you all the very latest on that, allow me to thank my newest paid subscribers Jane, Green and Paul. Cheers for your support!
This week there will be a big announcement regarding the future of this newsletter which I am excited about. Paid subscribers will be the first to hear about this development tomorrow so if you haven’t yet, do consider upgrading to support my work or indeed become a free subscriber if you haven’t yet.
Liz Truss Wins Election
As expected, Liz Truss has won the Conservative leadership race with 57% of the vote. After the result was announced she paid tribute to Boris Johnson and pledged an agenda that champions freedom, low taxes and personal responsibility.
Pledging to ‘govern as a Conservative’, she will need to get on and deliver very quickly indeed.
What Maureen Thinks
Paid subscribers are able to post comments and I will usually respond. I’m also going to start highlighting what those supporting this newsletter think here as well.
In response Nigel Farage’s comments about the Tories heading for a ‘97 style wipeout (and deserving it), Maureen had this to say:
“Nigel Farage hitting all the right action points as usual. Once upon a time it was a given that the demise or retirement of a Prime Minister would automatically trigger an election but like so many other things and even the law itself perversions have made the unthinkable a reality.”
After Boris Johnson was forced to resign without voters getting a say, I think there will be growing pressure on Truss to call an early election. I could see it happening next year perhaps and October 2023 has been talked about.
As to whether that would lead to an electoral wipeout for the Tories? That’s really going to depend on what Truss can deliver and how quickly.
Conservatives Facing Defeat
The scale of the challenge ahead for Truss has been underlined once again by a poll today showing large Labour poll leads. The Tories will need to work hard and deliver if they want want disgruntled Leavers to back the party again.
Survation have released a poll today showing Labour with a double digit poll lead, though on the decline when compared to July.
When party leaders are named, Labour’s lead grows which shows that Truss must seek to stamp her authority quickly.
Appointing Suella Braverman, Jacob Rees-Mogg, Kemi Badenoch and Lord Frost to senior roles in Cabinet would be a good start. We will soon see if the rumours are true!
Open To Backing Truss
The polls I’ve held in this newsletter have produced interesting results. Most of you have said that you currently intend to vote for Reform UK, which should really worry the Tories.
However in my last newsletter I asked you that if Truss delivered on her pledges, would you vote Tory at the next General Election?
88% of you said you would vote Conservative if Truss delivers. Which once again underlines the need for the new PM to take action when it comes to tackling illegal migration, ditching EU law and cutting taxes.
Illegal Boat Surge Ramping Up
As some in Remainstream media continue to downplay or completely ignore the scandal of illegal migration across from France, I will continue to highlight what is really going on.
On Saturday 960 more people crossed on 20 boats in a single day. Sunday saw an even larger 1,160 people cross on 25 boats.
It is an alarming surge that once again demonstrates how the Government have completely lost control of a situation that has been getting more serious for a number of years now.
The solution starts with leaving the ECHR. Let’s hope Truss tackles this as a top priority or the Tories have no chance of winning the next election.
I like what I hear about Reform but under the current system, there’s no chance whatsoever that they could form a government and by splitting the centre-right vote we risk getting a coalition of undesirables. As a constituent of Kemi Badenoch, I am going to have to vote Conservative but obviously hope that Truss delivers - unlike Boris.
Liz now Has to Deliver Onthe 2019 Manifesto of the Conservative Party, Which means Taking back our Borders, and leaving the ECHR, Thus Far I'm still for Reform UK, and Unless people Want the Same Old, 2 party System where nothing gets done, Then Reform is the Viable option.
