Denial is the word that best sums it up - an astonishingly cruel situation that has badly let down victims who deserved better.

The establishment preferred to remain in a state of denial over the composition of these vile gangs who preyed on girls.

What’s worse is that at one stage we saw a Government-sanctioned report misdirect from the reality as well.

We even find out that Whitehall officials were keen on a cover-up.

It is a dark, horrifying reality: that spineless, weak authorities preferred to ignore what has actually been going on.
