As readers will know, I was optimistic about a Truss Government on the basis that the new PM had pledged to be radical and handed top jobs to solid Brexiteers, such as Suella Braverman becoming Home Secretary.

I also thought there would be a huge sense of urgency to deliver policy change across the spectrum given the ousting of Boris Johnson and relatively short period until the next General Election.

But rather than immediately triggering Article 16, scrapping the BBC Licence Fee or announcing areas where new grammar schools would open, we have instead seen the one big Truss announcement - on cutting taxes - binned by her new Chancellor, Jeremy Hunt.

Specifically when it comes to Suella Braverman, I assumed that Truss making her the new Home Secretary tasked with stopping illegal immigration would be done on the assumption that Braverman could go ahead and get the UK out of ECHR.

Huge Conservative support for Kemi Badenoch and Suella Braverman to be in next Cabinet. Next PM should promote both and lead UK out of ECHR.

Instead, the new Home Secretary became a rebel within the Government for simply advocating her long-held belief that was the centrepiece of her leadership campaign. What an absurd situation.

Oh and by the way, there is still absolutely no sign of the Rwanda policy ever happening despite the previous Home Secretary announcing the scheme way back in April. Meanwhile, illegal migrant boat crossings have now topped a record 35,000 this year.

This all leads to the absolutely dire state that the Conservatives now find themselves in. Both Liz Truss’s lack of personal popularity and the Tory Party’s collapse in support points to a total electoral wipeout if things don’t change. I seriously doubt you will ever have seen poll numbers as dramatic and damning as those below.
