There is little doubt that interest in Reform overall is increasing. That tends to happen when you surge from only 2% in the polls to 16%.
It is an incredible rise that is totally unsurprising to me. Just look at one of Rishi Sunak’s pledges, to ‘stop the boats’. And you see a complete lack of action.
Let me remind you that it was way back in 2022 that a European Court intervened to stop the Rwanda plan being implemented.
Since then we’ve heard excuse after excuse, promise after promise. But a total refusal to just ditch the ECHR.
And so in 2024 the humiliation continues: illegal boat crossings from France to England are up 43% this year compared to the same period last year.
Over 5,000 people have already crossed this year. Many more will come. The Prime Minister will continue to insist that he will stop the boats. But he won’t do what is actually necessary.
It has been noticeable for a while now that many Conservative MPs themselves slam the state of the country rather than celebrate what a Tory Government has delivered. High tax, high immigration, damaging green zealotry and weak borders.
So with some forecasts now slumping the Tories down to fewer than 100 seats after the next General Election, Tory MPs have gone on the attack against Reform.
