Tory immigration legacy is appalling.

Yesterday saw the new Conservative Leader Kemi Badenoch talk about immigration.

There didn’t seem to be much specific policy, just chat of reviewing migration policies.

Badenoch did admit that the Conservatives got it wrong in Government and spoke of a new approach.

The problem for her and the Tories is, will anybody believe them?

Because today we have learnt not what the Tories said about mass migration when in power, but what they actually did.

And the reality is beyond anything we have seen before as a country.

Remember that David Cameron talked of the need to bring net migration down to the ‘tens of thousands’ back in 2010.

Back then the Conservative line was that net migration per year of 200,000 was too much.

What we have now seen since is the British public totally ignored by the Conservatives as they have ramped up levels to an extreme degree.

The result has been hospitals and GP surgeries struggling to cope with demand, a housing crisis hurting our young people in particular and infrastructure that is having to cope with the largest surge in population for 75 years.

But I’m afraid that today we learnt that things were far worse under the Tories than we even thought.

Not only have the Office for National Statistics provided a net migration figure of 728,000 for the year to June 2024.

But for the year ending June 2023, we’ve just seen the figure revised upwards to a completely shocking 906,000.

That’s right, the Conservatives chose to implement a policy of net migration close to one million in a year.

It is outrageous and utterly irresponsible.

As far as I’m concerned, the Conservatives in opposition can say whatever they like about immigration.

Their diabolical track record demonstrates why I won’t believe a word they say.
