We now have one of our first post-General Election verdicts on what the public now think.
It’s bad news for Keir Starmer, good news for Nigel Farage and pretty worrying for the Conservatives.
Perhaps this is no surprise. We now live in a country where neither the economy nor health is the top issue for voters, but immigration.
The Tories should have used post-Brexit powers to deliver the ‘tens of thousands’ net levels they used to talk about, as a starting point. But they chose not to.
Likewise Labour seem to have no plan to cut numbers at all, with the illegal boat crossings also out of control.
On 11th August over 700 more people crossed on 11 boats in a single day.
And so it is interesting to see what the verdict from voters is already in the very early days of this Labour Government.
The findings certainly pleased Reform MP Lee Anderson who had this to say:
