Thanks as ever to paid supporters of this newsletter, including the newest paid subscriber Siddiq. Cheers and welcome.

Reform UK and the Conservative Party both have big choices to make as they challenge Keir Starmer’s Labour Government. Indeed some of those choices have already been made and many more are to come.

Before I get to that though, thanks to the paid supporters of Heaver News for your comments in response to my previous post on the truly dire First Past The Post status quo.

It is utterly bonkers that the Liberal Democrats received fewer votes than the Reform Party, yet secured 71 MPs compared to Reform’s 5. No one will ever convince me that that is is a fair or sensible system.

And it seems paid supporters of Heaver News agree, with Mrs. Bucket writing:

“Great post Michael, all summed up neatly, much work to be done now.”

Keith is similarly unimpressed with the current Westminster electoral system:

“FPTP is not democracy. We need to keep the pressure on to ensure that the people of Britain can truly have the representation they’re supposed to have. FPTP just protects the Uniparty.”

And Jim had this feedback on what I had to say:

“Excellent summary! There is a good hybrid version of PR which combines local constituency representation along with allocation by popular national vote.

“This version may hopefully overcome the objection of some of our potential allies who understandably wish to retain a link to local constituency representatives.”

Overall, paid supporters of Heaver News seem to agree that reform is needed.

As to how that change will look and who it will be advanced by? Well both Nigel Farage’s Reform Party and what’s left of Rishi Sunak’s Conservatives both have big decisions to make.

These will help define politics in this country over the next five years.

Just who is in the middle of all of this? Suella Braverman.
