The country needs radical change. I’m sure you agree with that.
Today we once again have further insight into what that would mean under a Reform Government.
The asylum system? Shut it down.
To give just one example of how broken the system currently is, consider this.
It was revealed last year that the numbers of those who had had asylum claims rejected in this country - but were able to appeal that decision - had exploded by 500% in just two years.
That signifies a system that has clearly broken down into madness.
We also learnt from a Home Office whistleblower that in their estimation, just 1% of asylum claims are actually genuine. That’s right: one in every hundred.
Clearly this can’t go on. Today Nigel Farage has said:
“I am announcing that a Reform UK Government will SHUT DOWN the asylum system.
“This is a national security emergency and must be dealt with.”
Whilst Shadow Home Secretary Zia Yusuf has made clear:
“As Home Secretary I will immediately shut down the asylum system. Britain is full. No more asylum. No more free hotels. I will clear the asylum backlog by deporting everyone in it. Enough is enough.”
These are the sorts of choices people will face at the next General Election.
Either we carry on down the current path - or change direction.
As to the electoral reality facing the country, huge warnings last week.
In Amber Valley, the Green Party gained a seat from the Conservatives.
That was with the Greens on 29.5%, with Reform as the main challenger on 27%.
The Tories collapsed to 17%, with Labour on 16% and Restore on 11%. So the end outcome was a lefty gain.
We saw a similar scenario play out in Northumberland recently as well.
Labour gained a seat from Reform winning 39% to 35.5% - with the Tories taking 21% and Restore 7%.
With Reform clearly the main challenger to Labour now, that sort of electoral arithmetic should serve as a wake-up call.
Because yet again we see further evidence that an early General Election may be coming.
Now The Telegraph report that the Labour Government are pushing to scrap photo ID checks at polling stations.
It is very clear to me that the prospect of a snap election is now being considered by Labour, with the chances higher now after they defeated the Greens in Holborn and St Pancras last week.
So soon the choice may come: carry on as we are or choose a new approach?
