So Westminster continues to blatantly ignore the wishes of the majority of voters.
Instead of reducing levels of legal net migration post-Brexit, as the country can now do having left the European Union, the Government have ramped up levels of immigration to even higher levels.
The latest net migration figures have just been released and they show a Conservative Government seemingly with no interest in reducing numbers.
Conservative PMs - whilst also failing to deliver - at least used to talk about bringing net migration down to the ‘tens of thousands’ per year.
Instead today the Office for National Statistics reveal that net migration in 2022 was a ridiculous 606,000.
As the ONS revealed today:
“Total long-term immigration was estimated at around 1.2 million in 2022, and emigration was 557,000.”
As a comparison to the year before the ONS have clarified that:
“In 2022, long-term immigration into the UK was an estimated 1.2 million. This is an estimated increase of 221,000 compared with 2021 (942,000). This 2021 figure has been revised upwards (from 895,000 to 942,000).”
The Government have chosen to ignore the wishes of Brexit voters who wanted not just control of our borders, but a significant reduction in levels of migration as well.
YouGov’s latest data from this month shows 57% of the country think immigration has been too high over the past decade.
That includes a massive 84% of Conservative and Leave voters in the same survey.
Will the Conservative Government continue to ignore their own supporters and the majority of the country?
If so expect increasing numbers of voters to switch to Reform UK as Nigel Farage is increasingly asked about a potential return.
The government duplicity and incompetence is staggering. The government has a set of goals one of which is to 'stop the boats', to at least curb a proportion of immigration, but they let legal migration proliferate. Granted we have been open to Hong Kong and Ukrainian refugees because of authoritarianism and war that bolster these figures, but our points system has been set to bring in low skilled people in certain categories at minimum wage levels. We are also extremely welcoming of university student's families and we wonder why we get net 606k additional people this year! DUH? Lets not be so generous to student families. Where is the action to rebalance our benefits system to make lower paid work more attractive, where are our current policies to make training our own population more attractive to our organisations? If we allow hoards of people in, wages will not rise through market forces - lets have a sane level of labour shortage to let the market have its beneficial effect, enough that does not stoke high inflation. Where are our investment policies (enough to make a real difference) in innovating technology to replace manual work such as harvesting vegetables and fruit? Why have we not dealt with the ECHR and stopped the illegal boats? Why is the government not confronting the blob - there is massive support from the population to do this. This government seems paralysed, and the alternative Labour offering will be even worse. Our country is at a tipping point similar to the situation I personally remember in the late 1970's, the moment has cometh we now need the person.
When a politicians lips are moving they are LYING !!!!
VOTE REFORM UK...wherever possible, its's our last chance...
