2021 Record Broken
It has only taken until September for 2021’s disgraceful illegal migration record to have been broken in 2022.
The 12th September saw another 601 people on 19 boats cross from France in a single day. I’m sorry to say that this is still continuing on an almost daily basis.
That means we are already heading for 29,000 people crossing in 2022, having surpassed the 28,526 who crossed in the whole of 2021.
To put this new all-time high into perspective, only 299 people crossed from France on small boats in the whole of 2018.
In 2019 that rose to 1,843, then 8,466 in 2020 and before surging to over 28,000 last year.
This year the number of people crossing via this route looks set to surpass 30,000, perhaps even over 40,000.
For all of the Government’s chat about this dangerous situation, the crisis continues to worsen.
The Truss Government, with Suella Braverman as new Home Secretary, must get a grip and fast.
