This week Liz Truss has shown she is in tune with the public mood and intends to deliver on her campaign pledges, as promised.
Of course there has been predictable howling from the usual Twitter-obsessed bores. That of course serves to confirm that Truss is on the right track.
Firstly, new Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng has revealed a huge £45billion package of tax cuts.
It marks the delivery of a Truss pledge - to reduce the tax burden - that is backed by a majority of the country now.
Redfield and Wilton recently found most Brits (51%) are now in favour of lower taxes. In February support for a lower tax approach was substantially weaker (38%).
As you can see that compares to just 25% of the country who want to see taxes stay at the current level and 8% who want higher taxes.
In taking this decisive action the Truss Government has laid a clear marker and ideological divide between themselves and Labour.
Not long ago Keir Starmer’s party were hitting out at the current high tax burden.
After the Government then announced this raft of tax cuts, Labour then predictably attacked the package.
An opposition party consistently blowing in the wind, merely reacting to oppose whatever the Government does is not a very attractive proposition for the electorate.
Truss has also moved quickly in two other policy areas: fracking and grammar schools.
Contrary to some of the bubble mainstream media narrative, both have big public support.
Back in 2016 Theresa May toyed with the idea of ending the ban on new grammar schools. She failed to deliver. Shocking, I know.
Sky News found back then that 60% of the public were in favour of ending the ban on new grammar schools.
46% of the country also agreed explicitly that grammar schools were better for working class kids than comprehensive schools. Only 34% disagreed.
The demolition of this ludicrous 25-year ban has enormous public support that has never been reflected in TV News coverage of the issue.
There is also increasing support for fracking in the push for much-needed energy security and self-sufficiency.
Of course it is easy for the green brigade to oppose everything and propose nothing except higher taxes and higher bills.
But most of the country wants a pragmatic approach. Redfield and Wilton now find that 44% of Brits back fracking, compared to just 21% who are left opposing it.
The pro-fracking public includes a majority of Tory voters and a plurality of Labour supporters as well.
So those who argue that tax cuts, fracking and an expansion of grammar schools don’t have public support are either delusional or simply out of touch.
Of course there is still much to do. The complete chaos of illegal migration across from France continues on a disturbing scale.
Following the ECHR block on the Rwanda policy, 2021’s record of 28,000 people crossing has already been surpassed in 2022. Well over 30,000 have already crossed this year.
Thursday alone saw 1,150 people get to England on 21 boats in a single day.
As with tax cuts, fracking and grammar schools, Truss pledged to deliver change when it came to this situation as well.
Appointing Suella Braverman as Home Secretary was a great first step. She of course has said that the solution starts with exiting ECHR. Hopefully the Government hurry up and get on with it.
Truss must not shy away from being as firm and decisive on stopping the boats as she has been with this week’s budget.

It's a Solid Start But she's got to go further than that She's got to Leave the ECHR, and take back control of Our Borders Now Not in 6 mths, and commit herself to undoing what Boris has Blatantly thrown away!
worried about the optics of upper scale tax cut & banker bonus thing in the same budget arming the leftist with prime ammo. Already in town this morning the socialist have their stalls out.. "tories love only the rich" etc.. sign up to labour here. Damage limitation needed soon IMO.
