Lee Anderson Is Leading A Working Class Fightback
'In Lee Anderson, Tory MP for Ashfield, working class voters have found an unlikely hero.'
On paper, a former coal miner and Labour Councillor would not be deemed Tory Prime Ministerial material.
But we live in political times so bereft of spine, personality and conviction, that in Lee Anderson, Tory MP for Ashfield, working class voters have found an unlikely hero.
This week, Lee once again ruffled feathers when he steamed into Home Office Minister Robert Jenrick – one of his own – during a Parliamentary debate about the illegal immigration crisis.
In a video since viewed over 300,000 times, Lee blasted: “When are we going to do the right thing, grow a backbone, and send them straight back the same day?”
Obviously, Twitter lost its tiny mind. However when it comes to the real world, Lee later told me his inbox “was full of positive messages”. Of Twitter he said: “13k tweets today, ranging from Lee Anderson for PM, to Lee Anderson’s a vile c**t”.
But the more you looked, especially among Red Wall voters, the more “Lee for PM” messages emerged.
How did this unlikely situation happen? First, Lee’s one of the few “ordinary people” in politics. He’s the MP who puts the Wetherspoons into Westminster - and I say that in a good way. He doesn’t just call a spade a spade. He’d clout you round the head with the spade.
