What has just been laid out by Shabana Mahmood, and Andy Burnham’s Government more widely, is pretty terrifying.
As ever, British taxpayers will be paying the price for a fundamentally unfair system.
This Labour Government now want to subsidise EU students studying at British Universities to the tune of up to £450m.
It seems there will be another £40m foreign aid giveaway as Britain goes bust with a £3 Trillion national debt.
And after talking tough, the Government’s u-turn on those being allowed to stay in the country represents a system that has lost the plot.
We’ve even now learnt that those who come to the country illegally on boats have an official route to staying forever.
This is literally rewarding illegal immigration. It is absolutely staggering and yet on the Government’s own website it now makes clear:
“Refugees on Home Office-approved routes will be able to settle after 5 years.
“Others will settle at 20 years, reduced to 10 years for those who work or study.
“Anyone who arrived by small boat, or another clandestine means of entry, will face an additional 10-year waiting period – meaning they could wait up to 30 years for settlement.”
It marks yet more madness that rewards those who break the rules. It just isn’t fair.
And as for illegal boat crossings themselves - the latest figures are shocking.
