I've Just Been Elected!
Yes I have something to tell you...
You may have noticed lately my articles have been focused on international developments.
That’s been a decision made because of something I’ve been quietly busy with.
I was a candidate for Reform UK in the local elections, the first results of which we’ve seen emerge already.
If you want a better community and country then I believe we should all do our bit, so I stepped up to contest the Southend Council elections for Reform.
As I write this, I’ve had just a few hours sleep. It all went very deep into the early hours of this morning.
But the Southend City Council elections saw a very good result for Reform, with myself winning in the Prittlewell ward which did have three Conservative Councillors.
In fact Reform gained seven seats in this area overall, meaning there will now be 11 Reform Councillors here.
It was a nerve-racking night as you might imagine.
Looking across at the stacks of votes it was clear the ward I was contesting was between myself and the incumbent Conservative Councillor.
Eventually though it emerged that I had just done it, in a result that I think surprised some of those in attendance.
I ended up receiving 1,091 votes and 31.8% of the vote, compared to the Tories on 981 votes and 28.6%.
Labour came third on 642/18.7% with the Greens on 491/14.3%.
I must say all of the candidates and activists I came across last night from all the various parties were gracious, friendly and dignified which was nice to see.
In my speech I thanked the people of Prittlewell for placing their trust in me and said that it was crystal clear from results across the country that if you vote Reform, you get Reform.
I also thanked the Reform team who are a great bunch. Politics requires teamwork.
More widely, we are seeing some truly astonishing results across the board.
I’ll come to all of those after more results emerge throughout the day.
But for now, thanks to those voters who have placed their trust in me and Reform.
