Hello all and welcome back to Heaver News on a very special day!
As a proud and patriotic Englishman, St George’s Day is a special one - and in this newsletter I’ll be diving into what England makes of what’s been unfolding in our country lately.
Before that though allow me to thank the many paid subscribers of Heaver News, including Charles who left this comment in response to my previous article about Rishi Sunak’s record-low poll numbers:
“The mainstream media is not focusing on Rishi's presiding over the demise of the Tory Party, and still harping on about Boris's cake and Truss's budget for two reasons.
“First Rishi is a con-socialist, secondly the MSM recognises this and focuses on what they consider extreme right-wingers. The MSM are awful.”
Certainly it appears to me that Remainstream media continue to give Sunak an easier ride than Johnson or Truss received, especially considering the current Tory Leader has sunk his party’s popularity to a new all-time low in election year. Whoops.
Paid subscriber Zorro meanwhile gave this forecast on where things could be heading:
“I'll hazard a guess Braverman is hanging on to see if Sunak gets the heave ho after the coming May 2nd elections.
“She will stand for Leader/PM and, if successful proffer an olive branch to a Farage-led Reform by which they'll do a tactical deal for GE seats, give RUK some seats where the Tories are standing down, the Red Wall and Wales.
“Labour will get the cities anyway but Galloway could cause mischief along the M62 corridor from Hull to Liverpool.
“Truss and JRM are unknowns, Truss is on manoeuvres and I doubt JRM wants to lose to the LibDems.
“If Braverman fails, Sunak or another continue then I'd expect her to join Reform and take her followers with her prompting other backbenchers to jump too.”
Now that’s a thought isn’t it! Meanwhile Maureen has asked this question:
“Who is really in charge in Westminster, the bureaucrats or the Government?”
As we have heard from Liz Truss, even as a former Prime Minister she felt frustrated by an establishment system whereby power is often wielded by unelected bodies.
Of course the issue for the Tories is that they haven’t been lingering in opposition, without a Parliamentary majority to implement change.
They were handed that power by voters and have comprehensively failed to reform this stale old system. The farce of Parliamentary ping-pong with the unelected Lords being one such example.
And so it leads us to a path now where voters in England are seemingly preparing a seismic election shock in May that could further weaken Rishi Sunak’s authority.
I do think it is outrageous that there is now a Scottish Parliament and a Welsh Parliament but not an English one.
But regardless, us English will get our say in a range of votes next month - with some very dramatic outcomes now on the cards.
