Farage Humiliates The Establishment
Remarkable by-election verdict.
22,239.
It is pretty remarkable that Nigel Farage just received more votes in Clacton than at the last General Election, despite the establishment running away from the by-election.
Indeed the turnout still hit 44% even with the old legacy parties boycotting the vote completely.
Does anyone seriously think that Kemi Badenoch’s Conservative Party would have ducked the by-election if they thought they had a chance of winning, or even of a respectable showing?
It underlines their complete lack of confidence, following a near total wipeout for the Tories across Essex in the May elections.
Don’t forget: the Conservatives received 72% of the vote in Clacton in 2019. Yet by 2026 they now fail to even stand a candidate. That is a catastrophic decline.
So the media narrative of a Badenoch bounce and Farage decline aren’t actually backed up by the electoral arithmetic.
More widely, I’m not sure failing to even stand candidates will go down well with voters. It is a pretty spectacular insult.
And this comes after Labour and the Tories teamed up to cancel elections across England recently. What are they so scared of?
But even with a lower turnout compared to the General Election, more voters backed Nigel now than compared to 2024.
That result presents a real nightmare for those hoping for an establishment stitch-up.
Farage went directly to the people and the response was overwhelming.

Fantastic news! Clacton, unlike Makerfield, have done the right thing.
