So he did it. Comeback complete.
Donald Trump will return to the White House as President of the USA and his historic return victory tells us much.
Mainstream media is now the bubble. The entire Presidential campaign was framed as being on a knife-edge, with pundits and pollsters claiming as much throughout.
They were pretty much all wrong. Again. It keeps happening.
It’s why I would advise looking at the prediction records of political pundits and commentators before taking any of what they say seriously.
So many are now living in niche little bubbles, pretty much talking only to those they agree with: well off, anti-Brexit, anti-Trump and all living in London.
It’s why I personally try and spend as little time on social media as I can. The gym is much more fun anyway.
X/Twitter is terrific for grabbing information but it is bizarre to see some journalists seemingly spending most of their lives staring at a screen, on an app. That can’t be healthy.
At the same time it is hugely encouraging that Elon Musk’s platform now serves as a bulwark against cancellation and censorship.
The free flow of information online has humiliated mainstream media during this election campaign, with the likes of Joe Rogan’s podcast pointing to the way forward.
Rogan’s three-hour sit down with Trump has been viewed 46 million times on YouTube alone.
That was far more interesting and revealing than the broken and discredited format of uptight, out-of-touch lefties telling you what to think from a TV studio using select ten second clips taken out of context.
So there is much reason to be optimistic. Though perhaps not for Keir Starmer’s Labour Party.
The embarrassing degree to which senior Labour figures have thrown insults at Trump over the years really exposes a level of immaturity and petulance.
Research has consistently shown that in recent years, angry lefties have become far more intolerant than those on the right.
Hence the censorship push from some left-wingers who believe certain arguments don’t even deserve the right to be heard. That there should be no debate. Now that is a dangerous mentality.
Meanwhile Nigel Farage has vowed to put the national interest first, offering to build bridges between the UK and the incoming Trump Administration.
A refreshing contrast to Labour’s small-minded approach.
As the voters of America have just demonstrated, woke politics is an increasingly fringe movement talking to itself as it declines.
Great post Michael, very neatly sums up this momentous week. We must now beware the backlash from the evil left, they will come back nastier than before. Meanwhile, here's an amusing clip of European leaders being greeted by Orban...but Starmer gets a Net Zero welcome: https://x.com/alexharmstrong/status/1854515031943086264
What happens when their bubbles burst? I think that May will be a turning point with council and local elections. The tories I think are history no matter who is in charge.
