It is astonishing to think that rather than reducing levels of legal net migration since Brexit, the Conservative Government has chosen to actually increase levels to new record-highs.
Inside the EU previous Tory PMs like David Cameron spoke out in favour of reducing net migration down to the tens of thousands.
Yet as we see daily stories about the pressure on infrastructure, services and housing stock, all the focus is put on supply rather than a clear surge in demand largely driven by mass migration.
Immigration was the defining issue of the Brexit referendum. Ending EU open borders and reducing migration was the biggest issue for Leavers.
Yet the Tories have overseen a record-high 504,000 net migration figure that could be about to be topped by an even more astonishing figure that will leave Brexit voters furious.
