Now Johnson is gone as PM and instead we’ve seen two very different Conservative agendas from Liz Truss and now Rishi Sunak.
But the defining issue of the Brexit referendum - and voters demanding not just control but firm action - has seen the Government blatantly fail to deliver.
Already many are predicting that Thursday’s new figures could spark a backlash against the Government. One that lands another crushing blow against the prospects of the Tories winning the next election.
