Many others are now too, with virtually every industry and niche covered on Substack and YouTube nowadays.

Power continues to drain from the likes of the BBC, and that’s a great thing.

The public can now choose their own media schedule for themselves, watching what they want, when they want.

This fundamental shift has been greatly accelerated by the dreadful, condescending bias of broadcast mainstream media who feign impartiality on screen whilst pumping out personal opinions online. It’s a rather bizarre system.

Why can’t we breakout from overly regulated TV News and have openly partisan coverage? As long as the audience knows the biases at play, I believe people are sensible enough to take that into account and choose accordingly.

Instead, stale mainstream media has insulted the intelligence of audiences, resulting in trust (and interest) in mainstream news plummeting.

The latest Reuters Institute Digital News Report on the state of media globally backs this up.

In terms of consumption, the trend is now locked in and never going back:

“As audiences’ use of traditional news sources continues to decline, the role of news consumption via social media and video networks becomes more prominent.

“Though it has been the case in some individual countries for several years, at the global level (averaging across 48 markets) social media and video networks are for the first time the single most widely used way of accessing online news (used by 54% of all respondents), ahead of news organisations’ own websites and apps (51%).

“This shifting composition of news consumption is happening among all age groups.”

When it comes to trust in the media? Plummeting:

“Trust in news has fallen in 29 of our 48 markets this year, resulting in a drop overall to the lowest level we have recorded since we started to measure trust in 2015 (37%). Trust fell by 5pp or more in 19 markets.”

Here in the UK, the trend is online as broadcast TV News continues to collapse:

“As the popularity of online news video grows and the reach of broadcast television news wanes, watching news online has now overtaken watching TV news almost everywhere.

“This line was crossed in the United Kingdom in 2026, meaning the UK joins 44 other markets where this shift has already occurred.

“Broadcast TV news is still watched by more people than online news video in only three markets – the Netherlands, Denmark, and Germany.”

But fundamentally, trust in mainstream media has completely collapsed. The entire ecosystem has shifted. And I don’t see us ever going back:

“Perhaps the best illustration of the unease caused by turbulent world affairs are this year’s data on trust in news.

“The proportion of respondents who say they trust news most of the time fell significantly this year (down by 3pp).

“Having held steady at 40% for three years, the percentage of people globally saying they trust news overall dropped to 37%, the lowest figure since we started measuring trust in 2015.

“Out of our 48 markets, 29 reported significant falls in trust in news this year. Several countries showed particularly marked drops: trust fell by 5pp or more in 19 markets.”

It’s all getting more and more pathetic. Even Labour MPs can no longer bring themselves to support this Government.

Keir Starmer’s big parliamentary majority won at the last General Election has overseen a shocking legacy in power.

Taxes whacked up. Workers and businesses punished. The welfare bill exploding. Illegal migrant boats continuing to cross. A weak border, national security emergency. Net Zero madness continuing with higher and higher energy bills. And a country furious with the Two Tier approach our institutions have been infected with.

Labour have simply accelerated the decline we witnessed under the Conservatives.

They’ve chosen to ramp up spending on the benefits bill instead of backing the defence capability our country needs.

And yesterday even the now former Defence Secretary John Healey revealed how dangerous Labour’s choices have become, in his resignation later in which he referred to the Defence Investment Plan:

“However, your DIP financial settlement - which I was first given in full on Monday afternoon this week-falls well short of what is required for defence and the country at this dangerous time.

“The extra support is backloaded when the pressure of operations and imperative to speed up readiness to fight is in the first two years and it rises to just 2.68% of GDP in 2030, when we will reach 2.6% next year with the investment we are already making.”

And so Healey set out:

“After explaining to you that I would not be able to accept a DIP settlement that does not give our Forces the resources they need, I am now left with no other option than to submit my resignation as your Defence Secretary.”

There was another exit as well, with Al Carns resigning as Armed Forces Minister:

“While I had no hand in the Defence Investment Plan, that distance does allow me to say plainly that it is not built for the threat we face.

“It is neither transformative enough nor sufficiently funded. We are asking our Armed Forces to operate in a more dangerous world on a budget written for a calmer one.

“I have sat in the rooms, seen the assessments, and spoken to the commanders who will be asked to do more with less, and I cannot in good conscience stand at the dispatch box and defend a level of investment I know to be inadequate to the task.

“A serious country funds its defence to meet the threat it actually faces, not the threat it wishes it faced.”

And so what the country is left with is a Prime Minister in Keir Starmer who has completely wasted his opportunity to deliver positive change, to the point that many of his own MPs have given up on him.

We now have a zombie Prime Minister and a zombie Government.

But more than that, no matter who replaces Starmer as the next Labour PM, this is a party that has shown it has no real plan for governing.

Just like the Conservatives, they’ve maintained a dreadful status quo that has failed at every level.

Hopefully we get an early General Election. The country can’t go on like this.

The level of delusion from Labour has of course been heightened by their sheer desperation.

Their party is sinking fast and whoever the new Leader is, they will be searching to try and regain some momentum.

Who knows, perhaps it leads us to an early General Election. It wouldn’t surprise me.

But just as the establishment assured themselves that Remain would win, some now insist that there is a big clamour to Rejoin too.

That is also completely wrong, as Labour will find out if they really want to go through with that plan.

Before I get to that though, consider where the European Union is now. Because the whole project has got far worse.

Brussels now has an EU Defence Commissioner who has spoken openly in favour of an EU Army. A prospect Remainers used to describe as fantasy.

They are also pushing to abolish all national Government vetoes, including on EU foreign policy.

That would mean countries being swept up into an EU foreign policy their elected representatives may strongly disagree with. An absurd and dangerous prospect.

We’ve actually seen a similar scenario play out recently on trade, where an EU-Merocosur Deal will be imposed on the entire EU despite the likes of France and Ireland fiercely opposing it, worried about their farmers being wiped out.

What sort of democracy do you live in if those you elect are unable to block EU Deals being forced upon your country?

When it comes to EU open borders, consider the prospect of potentially one million illegal migrants being given amnesty and official legal status in Spain, thanks to the left-wing Government there.

And when it comes to the budget, the EU’s costly ambitions are clear. They are proposing an eye-watering €1.8 TRILLION budget for 2028 - 2034.

On top of all of this, some countries are now desperate to escape the EU’s so-called green agenda, with Italy calling for the suspension of Emissions Trading Scheme which is effectively a tax on companies, making them less competitive.

As for the EU’s economic performance? Well Germany’s unemployment levels recently hit a 12-year high and France crashed through an unemployment rate of over 8% this year.

So does rejoining this project really seem that wise? Well actually, despite what Labour may think, most still back Brexit and remaining outside.

Even amongst Trade Union members now, Labour are struggling as Reform’s rise continues.

Of course Keir Starmer’s party seems to have awkwardly already somewhat moved on from him - even as Starmer remains as Prime Minister and Labour Leader. For now.

Instead all eyes are on Andy Burnham and his by-election bid.

The assumption being made by many in Labour is that with Burnham in the top job, all would be different.

Indeed The Sun were the latest over the weekend to report on the possibility of a PM Burnham calling a snap General Election.

Yet Labour’s assumption that their party being led by Burnham would automatically sweep Reform away was dealt something of a blow by a new intriguing piece of research.

Instead what we can see is just how entrenched public opinion now is.

And how Labour have lost even formerly loyal supporters who used to form the backbone of their now crumbling base.

But if Reform win, it really will show that Labour can no longer reliably win anywhere, even when represented by who is meant to be their most popular figure.

So this constituency by-election has massive national ramifications.

Because it suddenly isn’t impossible to envisage a scenario where this all leads to an early General Election later this year.

Some will always take the view that Labour, or whoever the governing party is, will always cling on until the bitter end.

When a party has a big parliamentary majority the temptation for them of course is to string everything on for as long as possible.

This can prove to be a big mistake though, with a new Prime Minister and Leader often getting a ‘honeymoon’ poll bounce that soon fades away.

So as whispers grow of a potential snap General Election and what could play out in the months to come, here is what the country is beginning to brace for.

Germany, like many other countries, is struggling right now.

In 2025 the country saw unemployment rise to a 12-year high.

Close to 3 million people were unemployed, the highest number since 2013.

There may be even worse to come. An industrial massacre is continuing, with huge numbers of jobs going.

Just one example: Volkswagen have announced plans to cut an eye-watering 50,000 jobs by 2030.

Overseeing this downward spiral for Germany has been a coalition of the CDU/CSU Conservatives governing with the left-wing Social Democrats.

So far, the verdict on both in Government together has been brutal.

Oblivion is a word often now associated with the current fortunes of the Social Democrats, who have been consistently obliterated at recent votes.

It doesn’t get much better for Friedrich Merz, the Conservative Leader and German Chancellor.

One recent piece of research calculating the popularity of premiers across 24 different democracies found Merz to be the least popular of all.

76% of Germans aren’t happy with his performance and the Chancellor now has the backing of only 19%.

This coalition Government has now sunk to just 15% support in the country, with 85% now dissatisfied. It doesn’t get much more dire than that.

The end result to all of this is a record number just revealed that will terrify the German Government.

Once again we’ve seen an emphatic verdict delivered.

It’s yet another case of a vote in Europe producing quite a remarkable outcome.

The established order seems to be breaking down, with Viktor Orban defeated convincingly in Hungary’s election.

Now Bulgaria has followed suit in a similar fashion.

Before I get to the results there, consider this.

On 1st January 2026, Bulgaria joined the Euro single currency.

But there was no referendum for this.

Such a referendum vote was proposed by the then Bulgarian President, Rumen Radev.

The proposed question would have been: "Do you agree to have Bulgaria adopt the single European currency Euro in 2026?”

Surely it would be reasonable to ask Bulgarians directly if they wanted to ditch the Bulgarian lev for the Euro?

But that didn’t happen. The prospect of an actual referendum on this fundamental question was rejected.

What makes it truly shocking is that in every piece of research I’ve seen on this, more Bulgarians actually opposed adopting the Euro than supported joining.

Yet it all went ahead anyway, without a referendum.

But what we’ve seen over the weekend is equally remarkable.

A brand new party has just dominated and won the Bulgarian election in a huge landslide.

The Leader of this new outfit? The now former President who proposed the Euro referendum, Rumen Radev.

It marks a big moment not just for Hungarian politics - but European politics as well.

This was an election that clearly attracted worldwide interest and attention.

Across Europe right now, we’re witnessing a huge reversal.

The steady consensus of Net Zero has now been replaced by an increasing level of scepticism and pragmatism.

Of course events in Iran and around the world have given this all an extra degree of immediate urgency.

But the economic, industrial massacre we’ve been witnessing has been going on for many years now.

If we take Germany for instance, this is a country that in 2025 saw unemployment rise to a 12-year high.

And there is further trouble ahead. Volkswagen, for example, have already talked about cutting some 50,000 jobs in Germany by 2030.

This a country where in 2023, their last three nuclear power plants were shut down.

Germany’s Green Party had long campaigned for this - but it has been widely viewed as a catastrophic decision that has led to an absurd outcome as energy prices now surge.

As Conservative Chancellor Friedrich Merz has now made clear:

“It was a serious strategic mistake to phase out nuclear energy…we simply don’t have enough energy generation capacity.”

So where has this led Germany to?

With a German Energy Minister who now wants to see EU Net Zero targets relaxed.

And a country now forced to contemplate ramping up coal power after shutting down nuclear plants.

Similar moves are now happening all over the continent, as Governments wake up to reality: that energy security and independence must come first.

It’s funny how quickly things can change sometimes.

The mainstream media narrative heading into Denmark’s recent election was that Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen had played a blinder.

That after President Trump’s comments on Greenland, Frederiksen would be able to benefit from a ‘Greenland bounce’, and that both she and the Social Democrats party Frederiksen leads would benefit from a surge in popularity.

Perhaps some of the Trump-obsessed lefty media got a little bit carried away.

Because calling the snap election vote has actually proven to be a disaster for Frederiksen and her left-wing party.

On one hand you had the Tories talking up their Rwanda plan - that they allowed a European Court to block - whilst Labour spoke about their intention to ‘smash the gangs’.

Whilst Reform pointed out that we must leave the ECHR, the establishment just tried to ignore that reality. They still are.

And so the tragedy is that since 2018, Conservative and Labour Governments have collectively allowed over 197,000 people to cross from France to England illegally on boats.

A real sign of a declining party? One that doesn’t even put up candidates to stand in all elections anymore.

That is the dire state of the Labour Party now.

When it comes to the state of the country, things aren’t great either.

Unsurprisingly, Labour’s lethal cocktail of broken promises and higher taxes has led to an economy that is really struggling.

UK unemployment is nearing a five-year high and we’ve just learnt that the economy recorded zero growth in January. Zero.

Over 40,000 illegal migrants were allowed to cross to England on boats last year, thousands more have already come this year.

And the insanity of Net Zero has been exposed once more by world events that once again underline why independence should be the number one energy priority.

It is a horrendous record in Government that has led to Labour plunging in the national polls, with some now showing the next election as being a Reform vs. Green battle.

We’re now used to weekly Labour local Council by-election defeats.

Yet it did catch my eye this week that things have got so bad for Labour that they didn’t even stand a candidate in multiple elections that took place yesterday.

Remarkably, Labour’s failure to even put up a candidate seems to include a by-election in a Labour-held constituency.

In many ways a Labour Government that came in promising ‘change’ has done much the same as the Tories.

Labour promised to not raise taxes. Then raised them even higher.

They pledged to cut energy bills. Instead we’ve seen rises again, thanks to Net Zero.

‘Smash the gangs’ was the cry. More illegal migrants have come to England on boats during Keir Starmer’s tenure than under any other Prime Minister.

Welfare spending is utterly out of control, projected to rise to £407Billion by 2030/31.

A completely unfair status quo that is now seeing a desperate Labour Government even offering £10,000 per person, or £40,000 per family, for failed asylum seekers to leave the country.

This would all be bad enough, but events in Iran have exposed this Government further.

Weak leadership is making us vulnerable right now - and damaging Britain’s standing on the world stage.
